I’ve been lucky enough to be working with a new Healthcare startup called Clear.md and have been preparing short educational video’s for use on their platform for my patients and for anyone else who’s interested.
They will be short, 30-60 second answers to questions I’m asked as a rheumatologist all of the time.
We’ve had great fun recording the videos and look forward to the launch of the Website in coming weeks when the relevant content will be released for your information.
I have included a number of out-takes / bloopers from todays session for your entertainment. The green screen background will be replaced by a much more fetching background later in the editing process.
Enjoy!
(If you’re in a rush, number 3 sums up the session)

[...] how Dr. Ronan Kavanagh, a Galway-based rheumatologist, turns lemons into lemonade by including his video bloopers on his [...]

Ronan, we’re all laughing here! Love it. But even we are amazed at the power of these videos. We feel like we know you, and we have yet to meet! Keep it up. Looking forward to being with you in Galway in August.
You will be a rock star !! :-) It is certainly not as easy as it look! You look good in green though ..LOL!
Further proof that transparency makes it so easier to see the human side of a physician. You, my good sir, are helping to improve the culture of medicine one outtake at a time! #lovethese
Great stuff Ronan. The 5 second pause and eye blink in #3 says alot. Camera engaged, brain engaged…..speech…..hello speech are you there?
I love these, too. You do make it look easy (despite whatever you say)!
Never in a rush for a good belly laugh. I watched them twice. Brilliant. Two is the belter for me.
Oh Bottoms. Just realised I blooped that comment…. I meant never in a rush when there’s a good belly laugh to be had.
Number 2 brilliant indeed, a +1 from me, you make both life and being a rheumatologist so much fun, very inspiring and positive, keep up the good work Ronan, respect! (next time we take a videocam to a scientific meeting and then I grab the mic: “So Ronan, what have we rheumatologist learned today here at EULAR (or whatever meeting)?” – “Well, uh…what have I been doing this morning, let me think, uh…”, “Thank you Ronan, now on to the next question” .. ;-DDD ..)
3 is infectious! Thanks for the share Ronan, you’re a champ.
Love the eyebrow action, Ronan.Good on you for putting these up.
I made educ videos for GPs in the 90s with Dungloe G P Declan Bonar. At the time one of the medical weeklies christened us the Zig and Zag of Irish medicine! But one of my greatest regrets is not keeping a Dvd of outtakes and bloopers. Once you crease up laughing its very hard to sober up for the next take.
On one occasion we were in London filming with a rather bossy crew. During a break we decided.to soften their coughs by startng the next take with a discussion in Gaelic. Looking back Im still amazed how long it took to say cut!
Happy days… please share your bloopers with us on a regular basis and congrats again.

Muiris, You were up very early this morning. Declan B.
So funny and so natural ! Ienjoyed a lot, especially #3 ! Congrats. Francis
Enjoyed these, Ronan. Makes me wonder how many “live” bloopers I make on a daily basis?!
Ronan, these characters clearly don’t know you as long as I do … Your communication skills are much the same as at Castleknock College (29!!) years ago!!! Still, as a non medic I am well aware of the saying, “laughter is the best medicine!” … so well done with this universal treatment method!! Dec
… By the way, kudos to the make-up artist … Must’ve taken them a while …
Wonderful stuff, Ronan! Many thanks for sharing your hilarious gem.
Now, if you can take time for a laugh; I was discussing ‘Kissing and it’s Psycho-sexual Benefits for Infertility Patients’, but the presenter, Gerry Kelly, had other ideas! Podcast is LMFM, Late Lunch, 5th July 2012
Thanks Helena. Sounds great. I shall have a listen. If you post a link to the podcast I can share it for you
