The Musicians Clinic
The Musicians’ Clinic provides specialised medical care to musicians with musculoskeletal problems that affect their ability to play their instruments to their true potential.
The service is run by a Consultant Rheumatologist and Musician who provides specialised assessment, diagnosis and treatment of professional and amateur musicians with pain problems including; carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder and elbow pain, finger tendonitis, arthritis, repetitive strain disorders and other painful conditions.
Dr. Kavanagh and Music
Dr. Kavanagh is a Galwegian and has been a Consultant Rheumatologist since 1999. He qualified in medicine from NUI Galway in 1989 and completed his specialist training in rheumatology following postgraduate work and research in Belfast, Cambridge and Norwich in 1998.
He is a joint founder of Performing Arts Medicine Ireland, a member of the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM) and of The Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA). He is also a former president of the Irish Society for Rheumatology (ISR).
He is a keen amateur musician and played for a number of years with Irish band The Stunning where he played keyboards (and, when he couldn’t remember the chords, the tambourine).
He loves music and has a natural empathy with musicians and performers.
